The big catch-up session.

Lika-honey, you're right, HMC is fun & games...quite different from most other Diana Wynne Jones books I felt - then again, she is a very versatile writer (try 'The Homeward Bounders' on for size! *shivers* That one was tough). And I remembered Astrid from 'Eight Days of Luke', if only for the fact that David misjudged her. And like in 'Charmed Life' there was the Family thing, where it was difficult, or even undesirable, to fit in with relatives, which I thought was well-portrayed. Plus the cleverness of the Norse references - the ginger-haired young man who turned up on a Thursday, LOL. Wonderful. *^^*
*laughs* Ok, so booby-trapping your parcel was kind of evil *grins*, I just couldn't resist when I saw that packet of tiny gold hearts. It did turn into a theme present, unintentionally; the other theme being 'rabbits' (all bunny ears borrowed from Sakura Kinimoto ^___^). But I can't believe your fortune choc mentioned hearts! SPOOKY!!!!!!! :D
And that thing about Africa is really interesting. It's true, people who live on the land usually know what's best for it. Australian Aboroginies used to do burning in the desert as well...they were an amazing people.

I'm totally confused about the manga-to-TV continuity, because that bit with Daisuke (*pauses for a second to wave 'Dai-kun is god' flag around*) is from X 12, & then the next episode has stuff from X16, & then the next sounds like Kakyou in X15.....??????*confused*
But I'm so glad they kept Daisuke's dialogue about Aoki. *melts* It's cute how he idolises Seiichirou-san. *^_______^*
Thanks for your sympathy; I wasn't really keeping much hope up to see Kei-chan animated...he has no real purpose plotwise, & in any case they've erased the CCD. *cue rant* What the hell did they do that for? Surely the company who made the CCD anime don't have rights to the actual characters? The rights belong to CLAMP, so they can stick the CCD in X or wherever they please! And they could have at least used Nokoru if no-one else! And yes they have a reason to be in the plot, if only to give Kamui and his quasi-siblings a place to live. Hence the insertion of this moustache-guy who claims to be in charge of CLAMP academy. That's SO stupid! I thought CLAMP liked the CCD! *end rant*

Emily...she rang me a couple of days ago, and was describing 'Dogsbody' as "that book about a girl who's in love with her dog" followed by evil giggling, so I'm pretty sure she was trying to mess with my head. Semi-sure...oh, I don't know! *laughs* I nearly had a seisure when she said it, the malevolent wench. So you see, I haven't lost her, I've just gained an Ashley. Which is lucky for me, since Ash is a real sweetie (reason why I compare him to Aoki). It depends...I mean my lovely ex-roomie, of whom I'm ultimately fond, went off with her boyfriend never-to-be-seen-again..it depends on the person, if they are going to dump you totally because they've found someone to have sex with, or if they're still going to need your presence in their lives. I mean, Emily and I still have a joint birthday celebration just as we always did (with no Ashley invited, I might point out).
Er, I could go on about this for ages. If your friends find a girl/boyfriend, my advice is to stick a GPS homing becon on them. ^_^ As for anime opening minds, hell YEAH! It happened for me when I first saw Sailor Moon dubbed badly on TV, & within a month I was in love with Serena. XD ...And, did you know that you're legal in my country *wink wink nudge nudge* ;p

Revelation's very swanky indeed, and should mention that I adore Shuichi. The latest inslatment rather floored me!! 0.o! But yes, very entertaining ficcing going on. *kudos kudos* You probably already know that Keiichi has quite a devoted fan-following, (although it suprises me still) so never fear - we shall help each other through the cruel withdrawal symptoms CLAMP puts us through.

And on that note: *whine* Keiichi's not going to get a colour pic, *grizzle* nor will he get a tarot card, *moan* he's not in the TV show...ok, I'm done complaining. If I say ANYTHING remotely along thses lines in future, please y'all, just shoot me. ^_^

Tam Lin:
- Ancient Scottish ballad.
- Therein, Janet Carterhaugh manages to get herself up the duff with 'young Tam Lin', who promptly informs her that he's a prisoner of the Queen of the Fairies.
- Luckily, Tam Lin knows how to get free, and Janet helps him - actually, she does all the rescuing & Tam Lin is just all cursed/enchanted.
- Ends, creepily, with the Fey Queen saying she wished she'd plucked out his eyes & replaced them with two eyes of wood. Brrrrrr.
- Never heard the song, but I REALLY want to.

Thomas the Rhymer:
- Supposedly based on an actual person.
- Very ancient story, rather Rip Van Winkle-ish, about Thomas who disappears for a year. When he finally returns to his village, he says that he had spent seven years in the realm of the Queen of the Fairies. (Time runs differently in the land of the Fey).
- The dear Queen, much to Thomas's dismay (well...it depends which version you read, but personally I'd be pissed off) had left him a parting present of 'the gift of the True Tongue'. As in, he now cannot speak anything other than absolute truth.
- Probably the basis for the ballad of Tam Lin.

Bob the Builder:
- Very cute show for the under-six brigade, with none of the hideousness of Barney or the Tellytubbies.
- Bob has a gang of talking machinery, plus a stripey blue cat & a blonde girl-hanger-on called Wendy (try-hard feminist in a hard-hat and checkered shirt XD).
- The single version of 'Can we fix it?' beat out Westlife for the number one spot last Xmas. This is when Bob first came to my attention. *^^*

So, now you know...er, that I really love proper old folk-tale Fairytales, and a three-inch claymation guy who talks to his power-tools. ^__~

The reply I should have made to my bestest roomie a long time ago...

True, art's not about talent, it's simply work & practise, practise, practice. The rewards when being in the action of painting/drawing something are very few, but after the event it's wonderful to get feedback & just the feeling of accomplishment.
TIME is the key. People don't realise how art takes a while to get right! Years, sometimes! This took two weeks where I was so close to throwing it out the window, I can't tell you...
And I should really make one of my New Years resolutions to NEVER work without a reference. I used one for Keiichi there (that's why the light-source worked so well, to make it look as if he's in bright sunlight). Professional artists would never be so lazy & hack-ish to work without references, but then that's why I still AM a hack! ^_^
Also, just in case everyone's thinking I can paint, no I CAN'T!! The only part of that pic which has paint on it is the watercolour grass background (does it even resemble grass? >_<). And the acrylic blue splats (FUN! FUN! :D). I used yellow felt-tip pen & brown colour-pencil for the hair, skintone colour-pencil for the skin, gold & silver pens for the earings/necklace, blue felt-tip & blue colour pencil for the t-shirt, white acrylic to get the shine on the hair+earings+eyes+lips, black roller-ball ink pen for the over-all outlines, and of course I originally drew it in pencil.
I'm saying all that to show just how much work it is, & also that you don't have to be able to paint to get good results. People, if you can't paint, find some other medium which you DO enjoy (because, hey, even I would be able to paint if I bothered to work at it ^_^). And don't be afraid to use 'childish' things like felt-tip or crayon. Hey, it is possible to make them look good!

So, that's Ammie's five-second art lesson! Now go draw, LOL.

Sat-chan, I have to agree that I draw because I can express stuff much easier like that than if I wrote words. I always have done. I'd like to see more of the fan-community using images (i.e. not filtched scans of CLAMP stuff, but their own pictures) in this way.
So, um, meow meow, what was the toy you used to make this? As far as I can tell, you often paint your colour pics, right? And, in case you're wondering, my favourite out of all I've seen of your art is the drawing of your plant. Yeah, your magic garden! ^______^ Love it. A close second would be the dragon-head sculpture, which was too awesome for words. <3

Now, for something completely different:
when my best friend got her new boyfriend (now her husband :D), something changed. She always used to come visit me during university break, talk to me about important stuff, and generally regard ME with the most favour. Then, when Ashley came along, of course she wanted to spend all her time with him. Emily told me the reason: SEX! ROFL. (And I can still count on her to be blunt with me, & to tease me *^^*). So I wasn't mad at her, but I knew in no uncertain terms that she likes Ashley better than me, caranlity nothwithstanding.
Emily's still really great, and even though she's married she doesn't want to have kids or anything like that. But still, it's supposed to be 'the greatest happiness' & all that, so my parents TOTALLY want me to marry a rich farmer. *sigh* As in, a man. *shrugs* Why should I not want a woman? Not socially acceptable, that's why. The attitude of "whaddaya, a lesbo?" is fairly prevelant in NZ, even in these more enlightened times.
In any case, I'm more of a single gal. I'm happy with just me! And too lazy & selfish to be able to form a partnership with anyone other than my cat.

Am I supposed to be unhappy or lonely or something? Or pitied? The fact is that I have a large family who loves me, I had in the past two wonderful dogs, I have a best friend of many years (thirteen, Emily! ^_~)...what more do I need to prove my life worth living?

Hmm, now that I've moved on from S/S (not that I still don't WANT S/S, of course I do), I guess I like the genki/serious couples. Ones that have enough difference between the two, but still have a give & take as well. Like Aoki/Daisuke (not as a ROMANTIC thing, obviously! XD). How I feel about S/S now is that it was immensly satisfying. There were absolutely no consessions, no corners cut. Anything bad that could happen DID happen, and more. The ending of TB was sublime - all X did was to tie up a couple of loose ends. To be honest, I'd be fine with only thinking of S/S in TB, since (as you pointed out) the ending of their story was already clear right there. The moment when Subby said he would kill that man. I just want to leave it as it is, as a very intreguing story which I'm happy about, & move on to other stuff without forgetting it.

Oh, thinking of Aoki, I had another dream about him last night. I dreamt that I was looking at my last years diary-entry for Xmas, & I had stuck a picture of Aoki there. I was thinking "yeah, I really must love him".

I'm so glad they're highlighting the blushy side of his character (ever-present in the manga ^_~). I...I really like the idea of Yuzu/Dai too! XD Obviously, it won't do (my poor Dai-kunnie getting beat up by Kusa as WELL as both Kamui's is not good! XD XD), but in my horrible little heart-of-hearts, I LOVE that notion.

Neither I or Kei-chan could answer that. He's a stable sort of boy, with no particularly great big wishes or needs. If he sees a problem, he'll get upset about it, but guaranteed about two minutes later he'll have forgotten about it! *laughs* (oh yes, the other reason we love him. He's a total ditz. XDDDD)

I don't know where my Keiichi comes from, either. After about three weeks of Xisland I was starting to think I was posessed by him, cos out of nowhere there'd be "I ate your nose off! It's GONE! Anyhow, I read 'Eight Days of Luke' again (within two days; I'm such a D W-J junkie) since you commented on it. I guess it is sad! Didn't really remember it too well from when I was a kid, so I'd forgotten...I loved it so much because if all the Norse Myth stuff! When I was little, I couldn't get enough of those myths, and yeah, thought Loki was cool. *^^* So that's why it was at the top of my list for so many years. Despite this, it is a really cool story, & I guess a bit sad at the end.

Which brings me right to the other wonderful news; Ashlea Lierman emailed me! *nearly faints* I can still hardly believe it...she'd found the Keiichi Shrine, seen my fanart there & promptly emailed to tell me THANKYOU!! Me thankyou!! *squeals* This is sort of post-modern; y'see, Ashlea is the one solitary single person who got me into the Kei-fold in the first place. T'weren't for her, I would have no sunshine! IT'S ALL HER FAULT!

*recovers a semblance of calm*Ok, ok, so here is my analysis of Earthquakes where I attempt to prove I have some reasoning for liking the little blondie:
(If you care to note, I had no idea at the actual time what in HECK was up with me going all het up about Keiichi & terrified he might die. *grins* I just thought I was losing it or something ^_~)

And then he looks up, and finds a smile for him alone. This is where Kei-chan enters the story, after about ten paragraphs of Kamui-ness. It's Kei-chan smiling ^__^.

He told Keiichi once that it seemed to him like all the things they had to say about it should have started with "Once upon a time..." They all seem to think it's a fairy tale.AAA, fairytale! Apart from my obvious bias towards such things, this is a really awesome bit, & a clever way of finally revealing what's going on.

Keiichi laughed when he heard it, but not in any way that said he understood. That was all right. He has a feeling Keiichi doesn't understand him a lot of the time. Quite so. From what I'd seen of X 12 & 14, neither boy understands the other very well, although they're getting there slowly.

and he is sad behind his smile .......I don't really need to add anything else. That's Keiichi, that's exactly how he is. Those words really got to me.

Simple as that. With two tiny lines of dialogue, you suddenly get it. Keiichi does NOT understand Kamui. Oh, heartbreaking. Brilliantly written, BRILLIANT.

Cause and effect. They lean in the doorway between the narrow kitchen and the living room I love the kissing bit!! Especially cos it's subtle. And again, it's so sad! ;_;

they all fell half in love before it was done, with his earnest energy and his ebullience; Keiichi is like that. He was more than honest with the reporters, so sincere it hurt. *sighs* Yeah, that's Keiichi, always so painfully open & vunerable. ......^^*snik* Oh yes, 'half in love', way to rub it in. So I'll have to admit I feel that way about him...

He was, predictably, not overly impressed with this. Hey, it's just money, right? DAMMIT GIVE HIM HIS PARENTS BACK, CLAMP YOU BASTARDS!

And I believe Kamui actually smiles at the end, although it's still really really sad.
So now you know the cause of my affliction. XD Sometime I'll have to write about 'Last Man Standing', an even more evil & well-written fic.

There was a gold moon last night.
You see, the bushfires in Sydney (Oz....but let me assure you all that NZ is NOT a suburb of Australia XD) have generated a lot of smoke, & there was a westerly wind yesterday which brought a hazy brown-ness to the horizon usually NEVER seen in NZ.
Consequently the sunsets and the moon views over the last two or three days have been spectacular (dust in the atmosphere always makes for pwetty colours! *^^*).
I've seen big harvest moons which look orangey-yellow, but last night it was bright gold! Wow. Brilliant.

Auckland was great fun! ^__^ My brother & sis-in-law are doing great, just bought their first proper house (rather than flatting or renting), and my little nephew seems to be doing fine. I felt him! It was just a nudge, but there's definitely somebody in there, y'know? *grin*
Quinn doesn't have wind-powers. He does, however, have awesome powers of manipulating the TV remote control!! Don't believe me? ^_~ Well, when Lois puts the remote on her stomach, Quinn moves around and makes it wobble! XD I have seen this with my own eyes now (admit to being sceptical when they described this phenomenon to me over the phone XD).
