It was Italian Night last night at the Victoria Cinema. Which means we got to have pizza from Hell (no, really, it came in black boxes with a white flame motif on the top and the phone number 0800 TO HELL)...I chose Hawaiian. LOL! The film itself was 'Three Men and a Leg' which was by the same three guys who had a couple of films in the Italian Film Festival last year ('Ask Me If I'm Happy' and this other gangster-comedy which I don't remember the name of).
Suffice it to say these guys have got the X factor of comedic timing. Not a single wrong note hit. And, come to think of it, REALLY good music. Not your typical twee melodramatic-pop film score. It's also fun to hear another language spoken - Italian's got quite a few words similar to French which I found interesting. Ahhhh, Romance languages.
[just a quick shout out: Damn straight, Padawan, *points to self* Master is here, do as Master says, nice Master. XD]

A couple of weeks back, we went to the annual Shakespeare Outdoors performance(which is part of the summer Garden Festival - yay summer! It's finally back to being warm. My goodness, though, the river is way up). This year it was 'Two Gentlemen of Verona' (last year the same theatre company did 'The Tempest' which was awesome because they had several women playing Ariel as a sort of collection of disembodied voices. Neat). And it was cool as the got to perform it in the Medici Court So they could use the balcony & doorways & etc. ^_^(Italian style garden - woo! *_* I so want to drop out & be a vagrant living there amongst the fountains & olive trees. LOL).
Let me just say the play is hillarious. William Shakespeare, you're so funny. :P
I liked how they sang the love letter and the 'What is Sylvia' bit. I liked the amazingly morose Elizabethan Clown who never faultered in his silent expression of gloom. Most of all, however, I liked the Fools. There are two in the play (to go with each gentleman as their servants). Fool number one is the type that is actually much smarter than his master; he figures out what's going on at least three acts before anyone else. Fool number two...um...you just can't get what he's on. *g* He talks at length about bizarre unrelated stuff (meaning: it has no relation to either the plot or the characters XD). And when the two of them meet: well, it's craziness. It helped that the actors were scene-stealers, with little ad libs like "hmm. I don't get it. Must be an Elizabethan joke" & the ever-present dog plushie which lead to many comments of "don't stand on my dog!". (no, there are no plushies in Shakespeare. They were taking liberties ^_-)
There's nothing like Shakespeare performed outside in the evening, with clear blue skies & a pink sunset during it. ^__^
Nothing to do with The Bard #1: Last time I saw Q-ball (which was two days ago), he was dancing the fox trot (or, near enough) to one of the songs on the 'Strictly Ballroom' soundtrack. I burst out laughing and started to teach him the tango. *g* Y'all should see me & my twin star (that would be She Who Shares My Name, Well The French Version Of It, AKA Emily) doing the tango. It's very amusing. We did a spontanious bit of 'collapse on the sofa laughing', which Joss Weadon would hate (he says he hates those parts of Musicals in the DVD commentary for 'Once More With Feeling' - made me feel a bit daft as Em & I did it for real IRL with no irony, unlike Xander & Anya who kick their legs in the air to make it look all fake)
Heh heh. I think what this boils down to is my friends and family (& I) are all big hams. *wide grin* But at least we're genuine. :p
Nothing to do with The Bard #2: I was very happy with LotR basically cleaning out the Oscars. *Cheshire Cat grin* But what would have been really neat would have been if Keisha (AKA Whale Rider) had won best actress. I'm so proud of Whale Rider. *tears up* Still, it's cool that the only NZ actors to have been nominated were both little girls (re: Anna Paquin, she was 11 & won best suporting actress).
HUZZAH! You're really going to Montreal? Congratulations!!!! *LEAP-super-flying-tackle* *bowls you over* So, you'll be a bona fide Library Scientist and officially able to lord it over lowly Assistants like myself. *GRIN*
Sarai-chan: first of all, thankyou very much. ^_^ Second: I'm not 100% sure that there are people who come just because of LotR, but I would imagine so. Well, I hope so. Mt Ruapehu (i.e. Mt Doom) is definitely worth seeing, with a certain lack of Fires of Destruction IRL. Hee. Third: I remember Japanese exchange students at school who would always remark that they wanted to see the Southern Cross. I didn't understand this until someone told me that they've probably not had the opportunity to see the stars properly. That's really sad. I've got to think more on how lucky I am to be able to look out of my window at night and see stars clearly (sometimes I sneak onto the roof & stare at the Milky Way).

(a) Mum's birthday was lovely - we went out to a cafe for lunch, had a walk in the summer air by the river, went to another cafe for cake, ate FAR too much cake. Yum. :P
(b) Onii-chan and Q-ball came to stay overnight on Saturday. Much amusement trying to teach Quinn to say "Satsuki" (he says "suki" instead, LOL). However, he can say "Frodo" and "Gollum" now. *wicked laughter*
(c) And to get right up to date, Mum & I just got back from seeing 'Circe Dreams' - Circe du Soleil's latest show. FANTASTIC. That's the sort of dreams I'd love to have. All the colour & vibrancy, makes you feel like a kid again. I wanna run away to join the circus. :D
Arigato gozaimasu *grin* I like trying different art styles, & since Harry Potter lends itself to children's illustration style I thought it might be fun. :P Okay, next time I'm at Borders I'm really going to have to check & see if 'Fruits Basket' is in, cos it sounds really fun & cute. Anything with talking animals &/or animal transformations is fine by me. Border's did have a couple of suprises last time I was there: Please Save My Earth, Miyuki-chan in Wonderland, Fake AAAAND Petshop of Horrors (all American licensed English-language versions). I was amazed to see all these titles that I've been hearing about for the last five years (or more) suddenly showing up all at once. *big happy smile*

My secret admision is that I'd love to be a picture book illustrator. :) So! Our favourite pompous Head Boy is here to celebrate Valentine's Day and to remind us all that whatever you love (Mr Crouch, reports on leaky cauldrons...^_^;;;) is fine. I'm afraid my Percy is decidedly unglamorous. He'll probably be very handsome when he's 25 or so - but, let's face it, Perce is a geek (especially at school).
Octopus Army reminds you of me? SUGOI!!!!!!!!! *BEAMING smile* That's one of the best comments I've ever had. *laughing* The octopus tie was soooooo cute. That Usagi + Luna image makes me nostalgic for the "good old days" of early 'Sailor Moon', when Usagi was just a kid. It was so funny when Luna would chew her out & boss her around with sarcastic comments (*is suddenly reminded of Mogget from 'Sariel'* hmmmmm). Talking cat characters work well if they have a feline personality. *more smiles*
