A fairly energetic holiday weekend away camping - highlights were the spider outside my window which was HUGE, the goose-necked barnacles attached to a plastic bottle & SO cool with their beautiful white shells and feeler-thingees, getting caught by the high-tide so that we had to scramble over the steep rocks FUN FUN XD, annnnnd the hailstorm on the last day. *goes to run around in the hail & get stung on the legs by it* :D Hee hee! And I must point out I climbed a mountain in freezing cold rain!! I'm tough!! RAR!!!! X-D
Ok, so I'm back now & will commence catching up... Well, Rach, I guess your average Kiwi bloke is more likely to go "Oi! Get off me property!" *sound of dogs being released* than do the sensible thing and sell hobbit tea-towels to tourists. Ok, in case anyone's wondering "what the bleedin' 'eck is the deal with windmasters and butterflies?????!!": 'the beating of a butterfly's wings in the Atlantic can cause a cyclone in the Pacific' ... or something along those lines. I was going through a whole lot of old Doctor Who fanfics in TSV (Time/Space Visualiser, the fanzine of the New Zealand Doctor Who fanclub), having a lot of laughs since jokes about treading on butterflies are fairly rife in DW fandom (y'know the famous short story about the man who went back in time, accidently stood on a butterfly, & changed everything? SF fanboys just LOVE using it as an in-joke). Meanwhile I happened to re-read Brad Schmidt's fanfic about the Doctor & Sam on a picnic. With my CLAMP-addled brain I went "this is SO Aoki and Dai!!!!!" :p Particularly the line mentioning single life - it just sounds perfectly like what Aoki would say. Not to mention the "what are you planning to use your powers for?" conversation in X 12. Ergo, I went nuts blackening butterflies & painting blood red scribble-cyclone. ^____^ Oh, the badly written katakana says 'Seiichirou-san' and 'Daisuke-kun'.
I don't blame you for feeling paranoid. This sniper business is very scarey. I've enjoyed your discussion on the Sakura Board too; will jump in as soon as I've got my "why TB is CLAMP's finest manga and all must read immediately" speech down. ^_- And I must admit to also prefering character debate about their motives & psychology rather than who's the prettiest (well, that and some friendly quarreling & ribbing is fun too *grin*).

I'd have been the first to rush there & have my photo taken in a hobbit hole^^). Though I regret not taking more of an effort to stalk Sir Ian McKellan while he was in NZ. ^_- Speaking of him, I thought he carried the movie & was worth the ticket price alone. Yes, they made loads of changes, but try to think of it as a 'version' rather than the 'real thing' & you might find it a more pleasant experience. Granted most of the changes are for time-restriction reasons (well they really couldn't make a 52-hour movie^^;;;). The new trailer for Two Towers looks so very cool - Eownyn, Treebeard, eeek!!!! :D ...The end-notes in the novel convinced me that Sam loved Frodo more than his wife. *g* Sam's such a sweetie.

All that from something which I guess most people just think of as a 'story about bunnies'.^^;;; I'm sure the original Tommorow People was very charming. ^_^ British have the upper hand on whimsicality. OH! 'The Avengers', bet you'd like that. Emma Peel is a goddess!!!! :D I know what you mean about children's channels not liking the shows where people die & stuff. It's a bit like that in NZ too; Powerpuff Girls wrecking uber-violence is fine, but anything a bit more realistic that might make violence not seem cute'n'wacky causes consternation. Amazing as it may seem, you don't have to be a raving fan of a couple to be occasionally moved by them, or a least a little interested in them. Ditto for Yuzu/Kusa - don't force it. ^_^ There's something about X fandom which breeds couple-wars to end all wars, & I've no idea why!-----> BTW, Fuu/Keii for me is NO WAY, NO HOW! (---> jeeeeeest proving my own point ^_-).
